Barnet Liberal Democrats will keep up the pressure on the Conservatives Administration over the Icelandic banks deposits. In a series of written questions Cllr Jeremy Davies and Cllr Wayne Casey are asking the Leader of The Council for answers about how the loss of 27million Pounds and the steep reduction in interest rates will affect Council Tax Payers.
In a separate motion Cllr Davies will demand to know how the Council will comply with accounting rules so that the true state of the Councils finances is revealed in the budget.
Cllr Monroe Palmer will add his experience to the debate by proposing an amendment to Cllr Davies’s motion. Councillor Palmer will be seeking assurances that a full and transparent report is issued setting out exactly how the Council will account for the potential catastrophic losses.
Cllr Jack Cohen Leader of the Lib Dem Group says his members are not prepared to accept vague assurances. Cllr Cohen described the potential loss of £27million pounds as “extremely grave”. Residents want to know what’s going on, it is our job to ensure that the truth comes out “
And I will be asking a question on the function of the Cabinet Resources commitee and speaking of the Fair trade motion if it is debated.
